Bookkeeping for Ballina sole traders

  • Personal and business spending apart

When groceries and materials come out of the same account, we separate the business items from the personal ones and ask you about anything unclear. A separate business account makes that easier, and we can connect it to your file as a bank feed once it's open.

  • Money you take out, recorded properly

If you trade as a sole trader, money you move from the business to yourself is recorded as drawings rather than as an expense, so the profit figure in your software reflects the business alone.

  • Sales to several buyers

Agriculture, forestry and fishing is among the top groups in the industry chart below. Where produce goes to several buyers, each buyer's payment is matched to the sale it covers, and anything short paid is flagged.

Services for Ballina businesses

What Ballina business owners ask us

I work on my own. Will you take on a business this small?
Happily. A sole trader's books follow the same routine as a larger business: bank accounts reconciled to their statements and bill and invoice payments matched to the records they settle. The quote is sized to what there is to do.
My income comes in unevenly through the year. Does that matter?
Not to the routine. Quiet months still get reconciled and busy ones are recorded sale by sale, so the records are complete when your accountant looks at the year as a whole.
What do the business size figures count?
They're ABS counts grouped by employment-size category. Non-employing generally means a business without employees, but the ABS classification has exceptions and does not show whether an owner works alone. The counts cover the ABS Significant Urban Area, which can reach beyond the town centre.
Which software suits a sole trader?
Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks can each hold a sole trader's books, and we work in each of them. If you haven't chosen yet, ask which your accountant uses; we can then help you get access and connect your bank feeds.
How do we make a start?
Send a short note through the contact page with your software and how far behind things are. You'll get a quote back, and nothing starts until you've agreed to it.
