Payroll tax registration in Tasmania
Tasmania sets a weekly threshold for registration, counting wages paid anywhere by an employer that pays Tasmanian wages, with the application due within the days shown after the month it is passed. Monthly returns cover each month other than June, June is reported with the annual adjustment, and the table gives a notice period for telling the commissioner of a change, such as joining or leaving a group.

What it means for your books
- Weekly totals of the business's wages in each state, with Tasmanian wages separated out, show when the weekly threshold is passed. For a group, the members' weekly figures are combined for the same test.
- With a set number of days to tell the commissioner, the date of a change such as joining or leaving a group belongs in the business's records when it happens, along with the date the commissioner was told.
- Because June is reported with the annual adjustment, the full year's Tasmanian wages need to be finished in the books by that return's due date, alongside the totals already reported for the other months.
- Whether a change needs to be notified, or whether the threshold has been passed, is a question for your accountant or the State Revenue Office of Tasmania, answered from the dated records and weekly totals the books keep.
