How to edit recurring transactions in MYOB
To edit a recurring transaction in MYOB Business, choose Recurring transactions from the Banking menu, click the template's Schedule name, change the schedule or the transaction details and click Save. Deleting a template there leaves the transactions it created before untouched.

Key takeaways
- MYOB Business keeps recurring templates for invoices, bills, spend money, receive money and general journals on one Recurring transactions page.
- Deleting a recurring transaction in MYOB removes the template only, not the transactions it recorded earlier.
- Online payment changes made in a recurring invoice template apply to the invoices it creates from then on.
Before you start
Be clear about what you're changing. A recurring transaction is a template plus a schedule, and MYOB creates real transactions from it as each due date arrives. Editing the template shapes what comes next. Transactions already created from it sit with your other transactions, such as under Invoices on the Sales menu, and changing one of those is a separate job from editing the template.
Know which part needs to change. The schedule covers the Schedule name, the Frequency, the start date and how long it runs. The transaction details are the contents of the invoice, bill, spend money, receive money or general journal it creates, such as the contact or the amounts.
Check when the next one is due. MYOB generally creates recurring transactions between 7am and 9am on the due day.
Steps
- Go to the Banking menu and choose Recurring transactions.
- Click the Schedule name of the recurring transaction you want to change.
- To change the schedule, update the Schedule name, the Frequency or the start date as needed.
- Set how long it should continue: Continue indefinitely, Continue until this date with an end date, or Perform this number of times with a count.
- Make any changes to the transaction details, such as the lines on a recurring invoice.
- For a recurring invoice, click Edit in the Online payments section if you want to change its payment options.
- Click Save.
Note
What changes afterwards
Future transactions follow the edited template and schedule. They show up with your other transactions, for example under Invoices on the Sales menu, and you send them the way you normally would.
Setting the Frequency to Never turns the recurring transaction into a template you use by hand, and MYOB won't create transactions from it on its own. When you need one, open it from Recurring transactions, complete any details and click Save, or start a new transaction and click Prefill from recurring.
Online payment settings can be changed in three places, each with a different reach. A change in the recurring invoice template affects invoices it creates from then on. A change in one invoice made from the template affects that invoice only. A change to your default payment options, under Sales settings on the settings menu, applies only to new templates and invoices. Switching online payments off turns them off for every invoice, recurring ones included.
If it doesn't work
If you use AccountRight on the desktop, open Recurring Transactions from the Lists menu and highlight the template. Click Edit to change its details, such as the amount, then Save. Click Edit Schedule to change its name or schedule in the Recurring Schedule Information window, then OK, and click Close when you're done. If the amount varies, the option Save my changes when I record this recurring transaction keeps the edits you make each time it's recorded.
On the desktop, a pre-dated recurring transaction needs a start date within the current financial year and outside any locked period, and it can't be set to record automatically. If a ValidationException error appears while changing a recurring transaction there, MYOB's workaround is to open Preferences from the Setup menu, go to the System tab, clear Warn if jobs are not assigned to all transactions and click OK.
