Xero bookkeeping for Adelaide businesses

When a Xero file has slipped behind, Adelaide businesses can have it caught up from the oldest outstanding month forward. We do the data entry and reconciliations to bring it current, then settle it into a monthly routine.

Catching up a Xero file that's fallen behind

  • The oldest month first

We find the earliest month with unreconciled lines or missing entries and start there, because each later month depends on the ones before it being right.

  • Data entry from what you have

Missing bills, receipts and sales are entered from the records you can find, whether that's emails, photos of receipts or bank statements.

  • Reconciliations with differences explained

Each bank account is compared with its statements for the months being caught up. Where they differ, we work out why. It may be a payment still clearing, a mistake or duplicate in the file, or an error on the bank's side, which you raise with the bank.

  • A monthly routine once it's current

When the last missing month is done, the file moves onto monthly bookkeeping, which gives the backlog less room to build up again.

Questions about catching up in Xero

Why start with the oldest month instead of the latest?
A wrong starting position carries forward into every month after it. Reconciling the earliest month first means the later months begin from figures already checked against the bank.
What if receipts or statements are missing?
Your bank can usually supply past statements. For transactions that still have nothing behind them, we give you a list so you can find the paperwork or tell us what they were.
Can we keep using Xero while you catch it up?
Yes. Keep raising invoices and paying bills as usual. We work through the older months while the current month carries on.
Once it's caught up, do we have to keep using you?
No. You can take the file back once it's current, or have us carry on with the monthly bookkeeping from there.
How will we know the file is caught up?
Each bank account is reconciled to its latest statement, anything that differed has been explained, and the open bills and invoices in Xero are ones you recognise. We tell you when it reaches that point.
