Long service leave for part-time employees in Victoria
Part-time employees accrue long service leave in Victoria, and the Act has a rule for set hours that change before the leave. If the change falls within the weeks shown in the table, weekly hours are averaged over a shorter period, a longer period and the whole last period of continuous employment, and the greatest of those averages is used.

What it means for your books
- Each part-time employee's agreed set hours, with the date each change took effect, show whether a change falls inside the weeks before the leave that the table gives.
- Because the greatest average is used, the books need the weekly hours actually worked reaching back across the longer averaging period as well as the shorter one.
- The average over the whole last period of continuous employment needs the date that period began, with weekly hours from then on, kept in the employee's record.
- Which average comes out greatest, and what that means for a particular employee's leave, is a question for your accountant or Workforce Inspectorate Victoria, worked from those weekly records.
