How to hide bank transactions in MYOB

In the Bank Feeds window, right-click the transaction and choose Hide Transaction. MYOB's hiding steps are written for that window in AccountRight on the desktop, and since bank feed transactions can't be deleted, hiding is how you set one aside.

Key takeaways

  • MYOB doesn't let you delete bank feed transactions, only hide them.
  • A transaction that's been matched can't be hidden until the match is undone.
  • Hidden transactions can be listed again from the Display Transaction field and unhidden one at a time.

Before you start

Hiding is meant for bank feed transactions you can't match or don't want to. MYOB gives two typical cases: transactions left over from before you began using bank feeds, and ones you'd already entered by hand and reconciled.

Check the transaction isn't matched. MYOB won't hide a matched transaction, so undo the match first with the unmatch icon. Then allow for doing them one by one, because only a single transaction can be hidden at a time.

If you work in a browser, MYOB's help for the Bank transactions page covers finding, matching and unmatching transactions rather than hiding them, and for getting rid of a bank feed transaction it suggests contacting MYOB to talk through the options.

Steps

  1. Open the Bank Feeds window and find the transaction you want to hide.
  2. If it has been matched, click the unmatch icon to undo the match.
  3. Right-click the transaction and choose Hide Transaction.
  4. The transaction disappears from the Bank Feeds window. Repeat for any others, one transaction at a time.

Note

To bring one back, choose Hidden in the Display Transaction field. If it isn't listed, change the date filters and click Update. Select it, click Unhide, then set Display Transaction back to Current to see it with the rest of your bank feed transactions.

What changes afterwards

A hidden transaction stops showing in the Bank Feeds window, but it hasn't been deleted. You can still find it in the Hidden view of the Display Transaction field.

Hiding is reversible. Once you unhide a transaction, it returns to the Current view alongside your other bank feed transactions.

If the real problem is a wrong match rather than an unwanted transaction, hiding isn't the fix. In a browser, the Bank transactions page lets you click Unmatch on a matched transaction and pick the right record or category instead.

If it doesn't work

If MYOB won't hide a transaction, check whether it's matched. A matched one has to be unmatched before it can be hidden. If a hidden transaction won't show in the Hidden view, widen the date filters and click Update.

Seeing the same transactions twice in a browser? MYOB notes that importing a bank statement over dates your bank feed has already brought in can duplicate them. Its fix is to delete the imported statement, download a new one from your bank whose date range leaves out transactions already in MYOB, and import that instead.

To check what's left on the Bank transactions page in a browser, use the Not matched filter for transactions still needing attention, and the Matched filter to look over or change ones already matched.
