MYOB bookkeeping for manufacturers

If you use item builds in AccountRight desktop, a build shifts the quantity and value of the components used, such as raw materials and parts, into the finished item they make. We record those builds in your MYOB file from the production figures you send, along with the supplier bills for the components that go into them.

What we record in MYOB for a manufacturer

The work follows your materials from the supplier's bill to the finished goods they become. We record what your production records show and leave valuation to your accountant.

  • Supplier bills for raw materials and parts entered against the matching MYOB items, so each component's quantity on hand can be tracked if your MYOB plan tracks stock
  • AccountRight desktop item builds recorded from your production sheets or batch records, moving the components used into the finished item, either entered by hand for an occasional run or through MYOB's automatic build for products you make repeatedly
  • Component and finished item values in each build entered from the costing your accountant has set, rather than from a method we choose
  • Each bill or receipt your suppliers email to your business's unique MYOB address attached to the bill it supports, or used to create that bill if it hasn't been entered
  • Stocktake counts you send compared with MYOB's quantities on hand, with each difference listed for your accountant to rule on
  • Jobs for each factory, department or division you want reported on, with the job number added to each line of the bills, invoices and bank transactions that belong to it
  • Your bank and credit card accounts connected through MYOB bank feeds where your bank supports them, then reconciled to each statement, with uncleared items and any mistakes in the records explained

Not included

Choosing a valuation for stock, part-made goods and finished products, or a way of spreading factory overheads across them. Those are your accountant's decisions, and we record builds using the values they provide.

What manufacturers ask about MYOB

Can MYOB turn our raw materials into finished stock?
Yes, if you use the item-build feature in AccountRight desktop. Each component and each finished product has its own item, and a build moves the components' quantities and values into the finished item. In that version, quantities on hand change with each build, and we record builds from the production figures you give us.
Who decides what a finished product is worth in MYOB?
Your accountant. Valuing stock and part-finished work, and choosing a costing method, is their call. We enter builds using the values they set and raise anything that looks out of line with you.
We make the same products over and over. Does every build need entering by hand?
Not necessarily. In AccountRight desktop, you can use automatic builds for products you build repeatedly, as well as by hand for an occasional batch. Either way, the quantities in each build come from the production figures you send us.
Can our suppliers send their bills straight into MYOB?
Yes. MYOB gives your business a unique email address for bills and receipts. Suppliers send documents there, and they sit in MYOB until we attach each document to its bill or start a new bill from it.
We run several sites. Can MYOB show how each site performs?
Yes, with jobs. Each site gets a job, the job goes on every line of the bills, invoices and bank transactions that belong to that site, and MYOB's job reports then show each site's income, expenses and profitability.
