QuickBooks Online bank reconciliation

QuickBooks Online reconciles each bank or credit card account against its statement from the Reconcile page under Accounting. You enter the statement's ending balance and date, tick off the transactions that appear on it, and QuickBooks keeps a report when you finish. We run that routine for your accounts. Where you use Intuit's optional AI-powered reconciliation, we still check each transaction against the statement. The details below are from Intuit's help article on reconciling an account.

What we do in QuickBooks reconciliation

  • Add and categorise the statement period's transactions first, using what the bank feed downloads where the account is connected.
  • Check the last statement ending date QuickBooks shows, so the new statement picks up the day after, then enter its ending balance and date.
  • Tick each transaction in the reconciliation window that appears on the statement, and trace anything left over before finishing.
  • Upload the statement where you use AI-powered reconciliation, and still check each transaction against the statement ourselves.
  • Check the reconciliation report QuickBooks keeps under History by account, and show your team where to find these reports.

How we reconcile in QuickBooks Online

  1. 01

Bring the period up to date

We add and categorise the statement period's transactions before the reconciliation starts.

  2. 02

    Enter the statement

We choose the account, check the last statement ending date and enter the new ending balance and date.

  3. 03

    Tick and trace

Each transaction is ticked against the statement, and anything that doesn't line up is traced before we finish.

  4. 04

    Finish and hand over

We finish the reconciliation, check its report and show your team where the history sits.

General information

Statements come from your bank or card provider, and Intuit sets how its AI-powered reconciliation works. Changes to opening balances, or to a period your accountant has already finalised, are made only once you and your accountant agree them. Sources checked 16 October 2026.
