How to delete an invoice in Reckon One
In Reckon One you delete a customer invoice from the Actions menu (the three dots) on the invoice. An approved invoice must be reverted to draft first, and a paid one needs every payment unlinked before it can be deleted.

Key takeaways
- Reckon One deletes an unpaid invoice, or a draft awaiting approval, straight from the three-dot Actions menu.
- Once any payment is linked to an invoice, Reckon disables deleting it until each payment has been unlinked.
- Unlinking a payment doesn't delete it: the payment stays under Receive money as a credit for the customer.
Before you start
The invoice's status sets the number of steps, so open it and look. A draft awaiting approval, or an unpaid invoice, can be deleted as it stands. An invoice that has been approved but not paid must be turned back into a draft first.
Paid invoices are protected. As soon as an invoice is paid, in part or in full, Reckon disables its delete button so it can't be changed or removed by accident. Before it can go, each payment on it has to be unlinked.
Think about where those payments will end up. Unlinking leaves each one in Receive money, where Reckon makes it available as credit for the customer. From there it can be applied to another invoice, or deleted as a separate job.
Reckon lists deleting customer invoices as a feature of all its accounting plans and Reckon Ultimate.
Steps
- In the Day to day menu, choose Invoices.
- Click the invoice you want to delete.
- If payments have been recorded on it, find Amount paid among the totals at the bottom right of the invoice and click the arrow beside it. Reckon's support article shows this as an Already Paid field with the amount as a blue link.
- Click Unlink for each payment listed, and click Unlink again to confirm. The invoice's status changes from Paid to Unpaid.
- If the invoice is approved, open the Actions menu (the three dots) and click Revert to draft.
- Open the Actions menu (the three dots) and click Delete.
Note
What changes afterwards
The invoice is gone. Any payments you unlinked along the way are not: unlinking only separates a payment from the invoice, so each one is still a transaction under Receive money, sitting as credit for that customer.
Those leftover payments may need a follow-up. A payment that belongs on a different invoice can be applied to it. One that shouldn't be in the book at all can be deleted, which the delete a payment how-to covers.
If only part of the invoice is wrong, consider editing it rather than deleting it.
If it doesn't work
Delete not available? If the invoice has a payment on it, Reckon disables Delete to protect it. Unlink every payment shown under Amount paid, make sure the status now reads Unpaid, and try again.
If Delete still isn't offered, check whether the invoice is approved. An approved invoice has to go through Revert to draft on the Actions menu before Delete will work.
