About these figures
- These ABS figures count actively trading businesses, not workers, sites or venues, each in its main state or territory.
- Each state's figure adds up the ABS counts for the small areas in it. The ABS adjusts those counts slightly to protect confidentiality, so the sums are approximate.
- The Australian total also counts businesses in the Other Territories or with no known state, which have no row of their own here, so the states need not add up to it.
Summary of the ABS division definition
The Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing Division includes businesses mainly engaged in growing crops, raising animals, growing and harvesting timber, and harvesting fish and other animals from farms or their natural habitats. The division makes a distinction between two basic activities: production, and support services to production. Included as production activities are horticulture, livestock production and aquaculture, forestry and logging, and fishing, hunting and trapping.
