Small business bookkeeping for Melbourne businesses

If you've been keeping the books yourself, you can hand the monthly work to us and stay in the software and file you already use. We pick up from where your records are up to and carry the routine on from there.

Handing over books you've kept yourself

  • The file you already know

We join the accounting file you keep now, whether it's Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks, as an extra user. Your accounts, contacts and past entries stay put, and so does your own login.

  • A look before we take over

We read through what you've entered recently and ask about anything we can't follow, such as a transfer between accounts or a deposit we can't match to an invoice.

  • The monthly jobs, moved to us

Each month we record the bank feed transactions, enter supplier bills, apply customer payments to their invoices and compare each account with its statement, explaining anything that doesn't line up, such as a payment still to clear.

  • Keep the jobs you enjoy

If you'd rather carry on sending your own invoices, that's fine. We agree at the outset which tasks become ours and which stay with you.

Before you hand over the books

Do I need to tidy the file before handing it over?
No. Leave it as it is. Finding the entries that need a second look is part of taking over, and it helps us to see how you've been doing things.
I've been recording things my own way. Will you change that?
We work with the accounts already in your file. If something seems to be recorded in the wrong place, we show you and ask before we change it.
Once you've taken over, what's still my job?
Mostly answering our questions. When a bank feed shows a payment with no receipt or bill behind it, we ask what it was for, and you send the receipt if you have it.
Does anything change for your accountant?
They keep working from the same file as before. Let them know we're doing the monthly bookkeeping, so questions about the books during the year can come straight to us.
Can I hand over partway through the year?
Yes. We start from the month you choose. Earlier months stay as you entered them, and if we notice something in them that affects the months we're working on, we tell you.
