How portable long service leave works in Tasmania
- TasBuild says employers engaged in the construction industry in Tasmania are required to register with it. Employers who employ workers to carry out construction work also register those workers.
- TasBuild tracks employment across Tasmanian employers so that all relevant employment counts towards a long service entitlement. It takes responsibility for administering workers' long service, rather than the employer.
- Employer returns are monthly and due within a set number of days of the end of each return period. A nil return is lodged when there is no relevant employment to report for a worker.
- The contribution is a percentage of the ordinary pay of employees in relevant employment. A lower rate applies when returns are lodged and invoices are paid by the due dates.
