How public holidays work in the Northern Territory
- Public holidays in the Northern Territory are set under the Public Holidays Act 1981 and apply to all businesses across the Territory.
- The Territory's own holidays are May Day in early May and Picnic Day in early August.
- Show days are regional holidays. Each applies only in the region celebrating its annual show, and the NT Government publishes a map of the show day regions.
- Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are part-day holidays, from 7pm to midnight only.
- The Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet administers NT public holidays.
