Xero bookkeeping for electricians
Electrical work often mixes maintenance contracts billed on a regular cycle with one-off installs, all drawing on stock kept in the van or the store. We keep that billing, the stock and what each customer owes you up to date in Xero.

Your contracts, installs and stock in Xero
Contract billing and install jobs are kept apart, so the reports show each kind of work separately.
- Maintenance contract invoices raised on each contract's billing cycle, with the contract reference on every invoice and any missed billing flagged to you.
- One-off installs, such as a switchboard upgrade or a new fit-out, invoiced as their own jobs, with the materials used charged to that job.
- Cable, breakers, fittings and other stock you carry recorded as tracked items in Xero's inventory, so purchases add to the quantity on hand and invoices take it away.
- Wholesaler bills entered against the stock items they restock, so each item's average cost in Xero follows what you actually paid.
- Stock counts from the van or the store compared with the quantities in Xero, with any difference raised with you before the quantities are corrected.
- Customers on account, such as builders, property managers and facilities companies, invoiced on their agreed terms, with the aged receivables report reviewed each month and overdue balances listed for you to chase.
- A tracking category that splits contract work from installs, so contract and install profit can be compared.
