Xero bookkeeping for plumbers
A plumber's week is full of small jobs, each with an invoice sent from the van and a payment that comes in by card or bank transfer. We match those payments to their invoices in Xero and check your trade accounts against the suppliers' statements.

What Xero bookkeeping covers for plumbers
For a plumbing business the work is mostly volume: lots of small invoices, lots of small payments and the trade accounts behind them.
- Invoices raised on the day, from your job management app or in Xero, checked so each job appears once with the right customer and amount.
- Card terminal payouts broken down to the invoices they cover, with a merchant fee recorded only when the payout statement confirms it and any unexplained gap flagged to you.
- Bank transfers from customers matched by invoice number or name, including part payments and customers who pay for several jobs in one transfer.
- Trade accounts with plumbing suppliers: pipe, fittings, valves and hot water systems bought on account entered as bills, then checked against the supplier's monthly statement before you pay it.
- Returns and credit notes for parts sent back to the supplier applied against the original bill, so you are not paying for stock you returned.
- Unpaid invoices from busy weeks listed for you, so a forgotten call-out can be followed up while the job is fresh.
- Your bank account compared with its statement each month and differences explained, which matters when so many small amounts pass through it.
