What sits behind these figures in the books
- Cost of sales covers the paper, writing supplies, cards, art materials and business products bought to resell, adjusted for what is still on the shelves and in storage at the period end.
- Sales to business customers on account are invoiced and followed up separately from counter sales, so amounts still owed are tracked and turnover includes them.
- Back-to-school stock bought in bulk is counted when each period closes, so the cost of what sold is not confused with stock still waiting for the next rush.
