ATO benchmarks for lawn mower shops

Lawn mower shops sell mowers, trimmers and outdoor power equipment, and often also earn from servicing and repairs, with stock, parts, workshop rent and staff time as their main costs.

General information

These are the Australian Taxation Office's published small business benchmarks for lawn mower shops, shown as the ATO publishes them for each turnover range. They describe the industry as a whole, not any one business, and they are not advice about a particular business. Sources checked 15 October 2026.

What sits behind these figures in the books

  • Cost of sales covers the mowers, trimmers, parts and accessories bought for resale or fitted in repairs, adjusted for what is still in the showroom and workshop at the period end.
  • Sales of new machines and workshop repair income are recorded in separate accounts, so both sides of the business can be followed in the books.
  • Workshop tools, diagnostic gear and the service van are recorded as equipment, kept apart from the parts and machines held for sale.
